What began as a lucky internship opportunity, Sidewalk Math became a challenging but unbelievably rewarding design experience. I had the pleasure to work with an extraordinary group of educators to bring what was once a concept into full reality. 

The main idea driving Sidewalk Math derives from the idea of utilizing pavement hopscotch patterns to teach young children number sense and mathematical ideas. By jumping, skipping, and running along these sidewalk paintings, children get a sense of patterns and quantity – ultimately set themselves up for success in math education.

I was tasked as the sole designer of Sidewalk Math to both brand the project and facilitate the transition from mathematical concept to educational art installation, as well as create technical drawings, and design the cover for our book The Footbook, soon to be available on
